Getting started

My Danish Roots

The Firm

My Danish Roots is a genealogist research company based in Denmark with expertise in a variety of tasks and working with a range of clients. After many years of studying and working with genealogy as a hobby the founder opened the firm in 2013.

Originally, it was a one-person outfit, but today thanks to a series of great clients we have grown to a team of two full time genealogists.

The Process

1  After ascertaining the information you've provided, we do a no-obligation preliminary search. The purpose is to see how easy or hard it will be to get the search started. The outcome makes it easier for you to decide if you want to go on.

2 We outline a search after we have made an agreement for a limited number of hours; whatever you, the customer, are comfortable with.

During the project, we keep you informed about the progress of the search. You can terminate the agreement at any time during the process and unused hours will be refunded in full.

You decide if you want or need to extend the search based on your knowledge of the previous search.

The Collaboration

Hiring a professional genealogist in any country is a matter of confidence. As it is difficult to form a relationship of trust prior to the first job, it can be helpful to read the testimonials of other clients.

We find it highly important for us to be very transparent; both as to how we work and the nature of My Danish Roots. Just as it is important that you are in control of the task you have assigned to us throughout the process.

Danish heritage

We offer to help you with all kinds of Danish genealogy research; and to tailor it to your needs and do on your terms as I am confident that you can benefit from our long experiences and local knowledge.

Non-Danish genealogists are faced with numerous challenges. The old Danish language is even more difficult to understand than today's. The practise of how Danish family names were composed is confusing and finding ancestors or descendants in Denmark is often very difficult because many immigrants Anglicized or shortened their first and/or family names. Finally, it is very easy to confuse all the Danish parishes, districts and counties as they were changed from time to time.

All findings are substantiated by copies of the sources. Further, if required, we also transcript and translate the records which often produces the extra information that gives your family tree flesh and blood.

The founder of My Danish Roots  is a member of Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) and National Genealogical Society and follow of course their Code of Ethics and Standards and Guidelines. I only charge for my net working hours and do not add any other costs at all.
